LIBRARY SERVICES CONTD.

  • Our Central Library houses Special Collections like Rare Books, Women’s Studies, Indian Knowledge Systems, Christian Literature, Local History and Dalit Studies
  • Additionally, more than a hundred Rare Books have been digitally archived in collaboration with the Archiving Section, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata (CSSSC)
  • There is a fully-automated integrated Library Management System with KOHA Software
  • Internet access from the library is available for staff and students for searching digitised catalogues
  • The college has institutional subscription to INFLIBNET and National Digital Library (NDL), which students and teachers freely avail
  • Access to online journals and bibliographic databases is provided to students and faculty through our UGC Resource Network Centre.
  • Students are encouraged to use eGranthalaya (under MHRD), Britannica Online, eGyankosh and attend live streamings for their regular online reference.
  • There is a Reading Roomattached to our Library with a seating capacity of 40 readers.
  • Apart from the regular library hours, our Hostel students are allowed to avail the Night Reading Room
  • Our library collections have been immensely enriched by generous donations from amongst our alumna, faculty members and others. Mention may be made of the 127 books donated by Sm. Neera Dey (alumna), 1188 books donated by Prof. Soma Chatterjee (Retd Faculty Member, Dept of English, Women’s Christian College)), 60 books donated by Sm Ratna Sen in memory of her late brother, Shri P.N. Auddy and 82 books donated by Dr. Purabi Bhowmik (Retd Faculty Member, Dept of History, Jogmaya Devi College))
  • The Braille Corner within our Library complex comprises Braille books and audio resources apart from the installation of the Duxbury Braille Software
  • Our Library has an RFID Gate that ensures security for our books
  • There is a separate Book Bank with 2394 books at present that has been operational since 20th September, 1976.
  • The Library has institutional membership of the American Centre Library and participates in collaborative programmes.
  • Apart from the Central Library, there are Departmental Seminar Libraries on the second floor that help students get easy access to reference books and text books, that are managed by the ten honours departments themselves.
  • The Library has a QR Code which students and faculty can easily scan on their mobiles to get ready access
  • There is also an audio-visual corner within our Library premises consisting of timeless classics that are a part of the NEP syllabi.
  • There is also a display rack for New Arrivals
  • Our Library practices several Outreach Activities. It has donated computers to needy children belonging to the non-urban sectors, even while donating books to school students from the neighbourhood in collaboration with NSS.
  • The Library celebrates World Book Day, Library Day, Bhasha Divas, Rabindra Jayanti, and Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) through interesting book displays, quizzes and seminars
  • Our Library organises Library Orientation Day for first semester students to sensitize them about the rules and regulations of our library along with the academic benefits that they might draw upon using the library resources
  • Best Reader Awards from amongst both the students and faculty have been instituted to increase footfalls in the library
  • Our Library has not only held book exhibitions with leading publishing houses, it has also collaborated with some of our MoU partners like Rani Birla Girls College to co-host book fairs.
